THE DRY STONE WALLER

Film following the work of a Mr Harrison, described as "the last professional stone waller in this part of Lancashire". He is seen building a dry stone wall on the moors near Burnley; breaking stone with a walling hammer, selecting and placing stones in the wall by hand. Includes a brief shot of a young man climbing over a stile created by "through stones" and sheep going through a purpose-built hole in a wall. The film ends with panning shots of a hillside criss-crossed by dry stone walls. The Royal couple arrive at Hibel Road Station - the Duke of Edinburgh inspects a guard of honour and Princess Elizabeth is presented with a bouquet by Shirley Hankinson. They drive through cheering crowds to the town hall where Town Clerk Walter Isaac reads an address before they move on to the Council Chamber. A tour of Brocklehurst-Whiston Amalgamated Ltd silk mill, inspecting equipment and speaking to workers before leaving and the crowds dispersing. Mayor Fred Fowler hosts a civic lunch and people enjoy the day in West Park, South Park and Victoria Park.
