Film about the importance of productivity in the workplace- using as examples factories making the various components for Ferguson tractors (at Trafford Park, Manchester), and the Ferguson factory itself in Coventry where the tractors are assembled. The film shows in detail the manufacturing processes involved at each stage of production and eulogizes the efforts of companies to increase productivity, and provide an efficient atmosphere.

The Manchester Wheelers Club - footage from several time-trial and road bicycle races in Cheshire and High Peak, Derbyshire. Shots of the racers and spectators, competitors being handed refreshments whilst racing through towns, up hills etc. Some racers are on tricycles. Locations include the Middlewich to Holmes Chapel road and the A535 towards Wilmslow and Alderley Edge. Cyclists cross the finish line and spectators are relaxing and enjoying picnics. The film ends with a crown green bowling match and trophy presentation. A club member downs a pint of beer in one go for the camera.

Manchester Wheelers Club time-trial road cycle race with marshalls directing the riders and handing them refreshments. The race passes Croxton Lane and is headed towards Middlewich. Shots of club members outside a building with their bikes and also in the beer garden of a pub. Includes some speeded up footage of some of the riders and a marshall timing racers outside the Grove Inn. There is footage of a 70th birthday party in a hotel, a teamaker is presented as a gift. The final section of the film involves another cycle race with the racers coming up the hill to the finish line.
 
 
 
CADLEY GALA 1952

Film of the Gala held at Cadley, Preston. Preparations are shown, followed by a procession through the streets. The Rose Queen is crowned and makes a speech. Then follows scenes from the fete - the various stalls and games, a judo display, children's fancy dress competition and a race featuring motorbikes towing men in prams. There are also brief shots of a broken fairground ride being dismantled. This film was made to raise funds to build a Community Centre in Cadley (never completed due to lack of support) - it was shown at various functions locally and contains a deliberate mistake, whoever spotted it won a prize.

A number of different bands and floats are seen - most of which depict religious scenes. The film ends with several views of lorries carrying the Canberra aeroplane - Britain's first jet bomber and holder of the Atlantic record crossing (both ways).

Brief shots of London Zoo, followed by the Sykes family on a trip to Windsor Castle. Graham Sykes is seen playing in the sandpit at home in Lytham St Anne's, as well as with his brother Geoff and sister Judith, all helping their father to mow the lawn. At Christmas, the children are seen playing with their presents before the family sit down for a meal. Afterwards, Peter Sykes puts on a record and gives a puppet show.
 
 
 
LIVERPOOL STEEL SCRAP DRIVE MAY 1952

Film of scrap drive in Liverpool in 1952 - includes scenes in the scrap yard, men digging up tram lines, collecting scrap from householders and breaking up boats. Also views of ferries on the Mersey, street scenes in Central Liverpool and the Liverpool Overhead Railway. Film ends with procession of mounted policemen in full ceremonial uniform and an ornate carriage - reason unknown.

Film featuring steel scrap drives in April and May 1952 - in Bolton, vans are seen collecting scrap from a council estate and taking it to the scrap yard; in Preston, further scenes of collecting from households and the town crier promoting the event in the town centre. In Liverpool, men are seen digging up tram lines, and there are views of posters in the window of the National Savings Centre as well as the Anglican Cathedral, the ferries on the Mersey and the entrance to the Queensway Tunnel. The Hagon family, including Mrs Hagon's parents, are seen on the beach in Malta and on a trip to Gozo. Film concludes with views from an aeroplane, and the plane on the runway at an airfield.

Geoffrey and Jane Grime are seen washing the family car and there are views of Blackpool taken from a moving car on the promenade and from a high building behind the Grand Theatre (probably the offices of the West Lancashire Evening Gazette). There are scenes of the two children playing on their tricycles, receiving a visit from their grandparents and out in the countryside with their parents. In the living room at home, José Grime is seen knitting, listening to the radio, smoking and reading Life magazine. Includes views of Geoffrey coming out of Ashford School, a trip to a park with a lake, and the family are seen at and around Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland. Brief scenes of the Knott End Ferry at Fleetwood conclude.
 
 
 
HEATHER AND ALAN'S WEDDING, SINGLETON PARISH CHURCH

21 August 1952 - Alan Grime and his new bride Heather are seen outside Singleton church near Blackpool after the wedding ceremony posing for photographs with family members. The group, including Herbert, Elsie and José Grime, are seen arriving at the garden of a house, and the film ends with people entering a pub - presumably for the reception party.

The girls of Grange Park School, St Helens travel by bus to the Langdale Estate, Lake District. They walk to Grasmere and stop at St Oswald's Church and Robert Hayes' nursery garden. Langdale May Queen celebrations with a marching brass band and procession, followed by the crowning ceremony and maypole dancing. The girls go to church at Chapel Stile, Langdale, play in the river and play tennis. They visit White Craggs rock garden, Clappersgate, stop at Dungeon Ghyll Hotel for a drink, and are seen walking, paddling, feeding animals and watching sheep shearing. A visit to Near Sawrey and Beatrix Potter's House before getting the ferry across Windermere to Bowness. Some girls return to Grasmere and some go to Elterwater and watch the artist John Clitheroe at work. A walk to Little Langdale, before catching the ferry to Far Sawrey.
