Shots in and around the Salford area during redevelopment in the late Sixties. Workmen are seen stripping roofs, and there are scenes in heavy rain. Various bedroom and kitchen interiors are shown, and members of the planning department are observed at work. There is footage of removal men in action, and general views of decaying buildings and demolition.

Scenes at a go-kart racing event in Chorley, with participants being hauled up a steep grassy hill and the racing back down again on momentum alone. There is footage of Chorley Round Table Charity Carnival street procession in 1967, with floats, a marching band, and the Carnival Queen. Numerous veteran cars are seen travelling along the A6 in Chorley, and the film ends in Blackpool; shots of the Tower, the illuminations and the beginning of a coach race on the Promenade.

The Garners visit Gawsworth Hall in Cheshire and then York, where they walk along the Shambles and Stonegate and visit Clifford's Tower and York Minster. Rough seas at Blackpool in October are followed by a Christmas Eve 1967 visit to a family grave at All Saints Church in Church Lawton and trip to see Lily Ray in Kidsgrove. On Christmas Day Mr Garner makes breakfast and the couple exchange presents and have dinner. In February 1968 they get a new car and at Easter they watch steam trains pass on the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway and visit the Crich Tramway Museum near Matlock. WORK BEGAN ON THE NEW SCHOOL SEPT. 25TH 1967

The building of a new junior school in the village of Grimsargh, Lancashire. After scenes of the muddy site and building work there are exterior shots of the old school, built in 1809. Pupils and staff watch the last freight train go past the school on 3rd November 1967. The new school nears completion with shots of roofers at work. Scenes from a schoolboy football match in Spring 1968 are followed by footage of the newly-furnished school interior. Children play in the old school yard in its last days before the new school is formally opened on 29th September 1968 with a procession from the local church and a ceremony at the new building.

[GOODBYE TO THE OLD SCHOOL AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW SCHOOL IN GRIMSNARGH]

This film documents the closing of the old school and the construction and opening of the new school, St. Michael's Church School, in Grimsargh. The opening title tells us that work began on the new school on 25th September 1967 and we see views of the building site. We also see views of the old school constructed in 1809. The film records the last time the students will see a train pass by their school, on November 3rd 1967. The students watch the freight train as it passes, and there are close up shots of the train as it hooks up to trucks filled with coal in the sidings. There are scenes from a school football match that took place in Spring 1968. We see inside the new school, and then we see the students leaving the old school for the last time. The new school opened on St Michael's Day (29th September) 1968. We see views of St. Michael's church in Grimsargh and then a parade which includes members of the choir and clergymen walking to the church. A ceremony lead by the clergymen takes place outside the school and then it is officially open and everybody is allowed to go in. The film ends with scenes of children playing in the new school playground.
 
 
 
ELECTROSTATICS: A FILM FOR SCHOOLS

A film for schools about electrostatics - the generation of static electricity is demonstrated by various lab experiments involving a Van der Graaf generator and the static in clothes, and radioactive material is created in a particle accelerator. Scenes from a Hovis factory and an oil refinery show the efforts made to avoid potentially explosive sparks where combustible flour particles and flammable vapour in the atmosphere.
 
 
 
[WEDDING RECEPTIONS AT SAMLESBURY HALL]

Two weddings are celebrated, including scenes outdoors at the receptions at Samlesbury Hall in Preston, where guests mill around in the gardens and photographs are taken. Finally, one of the happy couples departs in a decorated sports car.

There is domestic footage of Mr and Mrs Prince in their home, window cleaners, fairground scenes , local shops and a man mending his car. Scenes shot in Ordsall, Salford, with children playing and shots of derelict and occupied terraced houses on the same street. Other footage includes land cleared for construction of tower blocks, passersby on a terraced street, boys fighting and playing amongst abandoned furniture and scenes of pets. The docks are glimpsed, and later there are scenes of bales of cotton being unloaded, the trailers from container lorries stacked on the deck, and a car being lowered by crane into the hold. Other shots show crates from the Middle East. The final section shows scenes in a Salford Park and shots of a Salford University hall of residence.

Other footage includes various activities and shops in the locality - road sweeping, a horse-drawn ice cream van a clog-makers, a betting shop, a barbers and a pub. There are scenes in various local homes, shots of chimneys and gasometers, small children playing in an abandoned car, a church parade and a football game played in the street. There are also scenes shot on various building sites and around the demolition of the terraces.

Dockers at Salford docks unload large bales of timber from the hold of a cargo ship, and there are scenes of tower blocks being constructed in the Ellor Street area. It is a cold day - puddles are frozen, and builders warm themselves on a small brazier.
 
 
 
[DEMOLITION AND CONSTRUCTION / ORDSALL SCENES]

Scenes around construction and demolition sites in Ordsall. A tower block is being built, while there are shots of cleared land. Men work on the foundations of new buildings and slot together the pre-fabricated wall sections. Terraces are demolished, and in the remaining streets, women are seen scrubbing the pavements in front of their houses. There is a shot of an off-licence, and the film ends with a parade.
